Pathway
The five-stage client pathway
From first email to handover — how matters move through our chambers.
- 0101 · Enquire
Enquire
You email us with a concise description of the matter, parties involved, documents you hold, and what you need in practical terms. We do not require perfect organisation at this stage — clarity matters more than volume. If the matter is time-sensitive, note key dates so we can assess urgency honestly.

Scope

Quiet corridor in a Telok Ayer shophouse office We review fit with our fields and reply with a scope note or a courteous decline. If we proceed, an engagement letter defines deliverables, timelines where stated, communication channels, and how revisions work. Scope conversations may include a short call — especially when documents are incomplete.

- 0303 · Advise
Advise
Substantive work begins once scope is agreed and necessary documents received. We analyse, draft or mark up, and send updates in plain language. Questions from your side are welcome — they are cheaper to answer while drafts are live than after signing. We flag issues that need business decisions rather than legal defaults.

Your action: respond to open points named in our updates
- 0404 · Document
Document

Conference table prepared for a client meeting with documents Drafts become execution-ready documents: contracts with schedules, board packs, policies, correspondence for you to send. We version carefully and indicate what changed between iterations. Final review is yours — we highlight assumptions that still need internal sign-off.

- 0505 · Close
Close
We deliver the agreed set, summarise remaining risks if any, and confirm whether a follow-up window applies. Files are archived according to professional obligations. New matters start with a fresh enquiry — prior engagements do not automatically extend.

Your action: confirm receipt and store documents in your records
If follow-up questions arise within an agreed window after close, email the named contact — we distinguish between clarifications on delivered work and new instructions that need fresh scope. Archiving on our side follows professional rules; you should store your execution copies where your governance policy requires.
The pathway is linear in description but not always in calendar time — scope and advise may iterate once when new facts emerge. We document each iteration so the file tells a coherent story for your records.
Clients sometimes ask where they are in the pathway — we answer by pointing to deliverables: if you are reviewing a draft, you are in Document; if we are still clarifying instructions, you are in Scope or Advise. The labels serve communication, not bureaucracy.
